The Breast Cancer Network of Western New York will once again be offering Quality of Life Classes for Survivors this Year.  All classes are free, however there is a $10 registration donation for each class.  Please note that some classes are during the day and some are in the evening. Jewelry Making
  • Monday Evenings, 6:30-8:30 pm, October 3, 10, 17, 24, 2011, Instructor: Carolyn Zimmerman
  • Thursday  mornings, 9:30-11:30 am, October 13, 20, 27, November 3, 10 & 17, 2011, Instructor:  Carolyn Zimmerman
From beginner to more advanced the instructor will teach you a variety of techniques.  We supply all the materials, you just show up and make beautiful jewelry and go home with a smile!

Yoga
Tuesday Evenings, 6:00-7:00 pm. September 6-December 20, 2011 except wnd Tuesday of the month., Instructor: Carolyn Zimmerman. Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual discipline.  Originating in ancient India whose goal is the attainment of a state of spiritual insight and tranquility.   There's mounting evidence that yoga is an effective pain-control intervention and is effective during breast cancer treatment and survivorship in lessening fatigue.

Zumba
Thursday Evenings, 6:00-7:00 pm, November 3-December 22, 2011, Miriam Kelley
Beginning Zumba class with our own Miriam Kelley as our instructor.  Zumba combines Latin and International music with a fun and effective workout system. Anyone can do Zumba!

Cooking
Friday Mornings, 10:00 am-12:00 Noon, October 7, 14, 21, 28, November 4, Instructors:  BCNWNY Members  Learn how to prepare some new foods, including appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts.  The class prepares great new recipes and then we sit down and enjoy what we have cooked.  Great food, good company.  Limited to 10 people.

Drawing
Thursday Evenings, 6:30-8:30 pm, September 29, October 6, 13, & 20, 2011, Instgructor: Linda Dugan
We will review and strengthen our basic drawing skills, examine composition, try various techniques, and use a variety of media while discovering that we can all draw.  This class is open to anyone who wants to draw, whether you have experience or not. Limited to 10 people.

Tai Chi

Book Club
Sue Petherick is going to be leading a Book Club at Bella.  It will meet at Bella Building once per month.  Anyone interested in joining is to call Sue at 684-0092 to find out when it will be meeting and more information.

Knitting/Crocheting Group
Georgeia Locurcio is volunteering to lead a Knitting/Crocheting Group.  It is for new people who want to learn how to knit or crochet as well as more experienced ladies. The group will meet the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the Month at 1:00 PM.
Anyone interested please call Georgeia at 674-8683. If experienced, bring your needles, yarn and sense of humor on Monday January 23rd!

Resistance Training Class
Heidi Billettier has volunteered to teach a Resistance Training Class on Tuesday afternoons from 4:00-5:00 pm.  The first class will be Tuesday Janyary 24th at 4:00 pm at Bella.  The class is designed to build muscle and bone strength, using light hand-held weights.  The class is for all levels of fitness.  The exercises are easily tailored to your level of strength including seated exercises. 

Resistance training is beneficial to women who may find a more rigorous exercise program too difficult.  Participation can help reduce the side effects associated with cancer treatment and can help participants feel stronger emotionally and physically.
